National Veterinary Institute is a national research institute in food safety, animal health and fish health management with the support of the authorities that primary role. National Veterinary Institute's activities should have their basis in research and development and include laboratory diagnostics and analysis, emergency preparedness, epidemiology, risk assessment and reference functions. Veterinary Institute to support the ministries and other government agencies in efforts to ensure safe food and good fish, shellfish and animal health. At the Veterinary Institute in Oslo is a free four-year involvement in the field of pathology.

The scholarship is associated with a greater presence on the Veterinary Institute in the area of gastrointestinal health. It added up to comparative studies on the inflammatory reaction in the intestine of various animal species, and issues related to the development of tumors in the intestine of farmed fish will be central to the scholarship project.

The project will be a collaboration between the Division of Pathology and Division of fish health with supervisors from both sections. Division of Pathology has its main tasks in the emergency, diagnostic, research and monitoring of diseases in huspattedyr and poultry. The section is a resource center for patoanatomisk and immunhistokjemisk diagnostics and is a national reference laboratory in patoanatomisk diagnosis and for diagnosis of prionsjukdommer in animals. Division for fish health are research and expertise for fish diseases. The section is responsible for fish species at the National Veterinary Institute and the national reference functions for fish diseases. In addition to disease diagnosis, research and preparedness against serious infectious diseases of fish high priority work areas. The section is actively engaged in research in several areas, with particular emphasis on studies of the pathogenesis of various disease conditions in fish with a patomorfologisk perspective.


Responsibilities

The PhD student will work in an established academic with long experience in the clarification of disease problems in fish and animals, along with staff who have broad expertise in microbiology, pathology and infectious medicine. The focus on research in the field of intestinal health encompasses several different activities in the Veterinary Institute. The research activities going on in close cooperation with the Division of Anatomy and Pathology, Norwegian College of Veterinary Medicine, and other research institutions.

Qualifications / Desired Background

We search for a veterinarian or a candidate with similar expertise in pathology with education at college or university level. Scientific expertise and / or experience in relevant work within the clinic, pathology and fish health, and personal qualities in terms of good cooperation skills, ability to take responsibility, and able to work themselves incomplete and systematically will be given weight. The PhD student employed for four years, where 75% of the time will be used for research, while 25% will be used to solve other tasks. The position will lead to a PhD.

The position is remunerated as a research fellow, code 1017, min. ltr. 47, or for particularly qualified applicants in code 1378 Depending on seniority and qualifications will salaries be ltr. 47-60 (currently ? 367 800 463 000 pr.
