SINTEF is an independent research organization that puts customer needs for innovation and problem solving in the center. SINTEF Technology and Society will, among other things, promote research and development for the health sector and the private sector in cooperation with relevant university and college environments. Users' perception of own situation and of health services, should be central in our work. Department of Medical Technology seeks a researcher (s)

We seek employees who will participate in research and development tasks to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients. In particular, the tasks to be directed towards the development and testing of ultrasound technology and the future of navigation system for image guided surgery ( "GPS positioning in the body"). We need enterprising employee (s) to strengthen the research teams in the various projects. With us you can in close collaboration with clinicians, technologists and industry partners design, develop and test new functionality in image guided therapy and ultrasound on the basis of clinical user needs.

Qualifications for the position (s) / Interest (s):
We are looking for employee (s) with university education at MSc and PhD level, particularly for research and development tasks in computer and electrical engineering, cybernetics, physics / mathematics with special interest and would like some experience in one or more of the following areas:

* Medical image analysis and visualization. Navigation and positioning technology. Software development and human-computer interaction (Cross Platform, C + +, GUI: Qt, Viz: VTK / OpenGL, Bildebeh.: ITK, GPU-computing: OpenCL).

* Basic and applied research and development in ultrasound and medical imaging technology. For both job areas, emphasis is placed on good cooperation skills, initiative, delivery and implementation capability, practical features, as well as the ability to create enthusiasm and involvement in a multidisciplinary environment.

The academic environment:
The academic environment today counts 15 people with technological background and has a close interdisciplinary collaboration with the clinical environment at St. Olav's Hospital (including Future Operating Rooms / National Center for 3D ultrasound) and the technological MRI and ultrasound environment at NTNU. Research makes use of 2D, 3D and 4D medical imaging techniques like MRI, CT and ultrasound combined with navigation and advanced display techniques in an effort to improve existing methods of diagnosis and treatment. Research, development and clinical testing of products / prototypes in medical technology carried out in close collaboration with the clinical departments at the hospital and industry. Increased scientific publishing, international cooperation, project generation, and participation in EU projects is a goal.
