Norwegian Institute of Public works to improve public health by strengthening the preventive health care in the community. The department provides advice, providing services and provide knowledge on how health develops, the factors that affect it and what can be done to improve it. NIPH also ensure the right advice and services to the legal system. The department has a management division and five fagdivisjoner - infectious diseases, environmental medicine, epidemiology, mental health and Infectious Disease ..

At the Division of Environmental Medicine, Department of Environmental Immunology, is a free two-year commitment that post-doc-stipendiat/forsker. Department for Environment immunology have 4 permanent researchers, 5 engineers, and a varying number of students (currently 7). The project is part of the department's efforts to study how maternal exposure to environmental factors acting on the offspring immune response and the development of allergy and autoimmunity.

PhD student / researcher will mainly work at the Department for Environment immunology with an in vivo model in which mice exposed to bisphenol A and phthalates, substances such as found in plastics and that we suspect affect the immune system. Another post-doc research fellow employed in the project works mainly at the Faculty of air pollution and noise with in vitro models. The two fellows / researchers are expected to cooperate, also with participants in an adjacent project in the Department of analytical chemistry.

Responsibilities:

Plan and conduct experiments in collaboration with a researcher, project manager and team in general, the older mice and the mother-child-models regarding the effects of phthalates and bisphenol A on the immune system. Outcome, we will study will be related diabetes (blood glucose level, autoimmunity) and allergy-and asthma-related immune and inflammatory markers. It may be relevant to study epigenetiske mekanismer.Teknisk work will consist of animal-work, immunassays (ELISA, flow cytometry, etc), data processing and writing articles. PhD student / researcher can expect a shorter stay abroad with partners.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

We are looking for a biologist, cell biologist, biochemist, doctor, dentist or veterinarian who wishes to work with the experimental environment medicine (immunology, toxicology). The person should be interested in and preferably have experience in immunological, toxicological and molecular biological techniques, and have experience with animals (approved courses in animal learning, category C). It is advantageous for the doctoral degree is taken in the last two to three years. Applicants without a doctorate may be considered.

Clear interest in immunological and environmental medical issues is an advantage. We emphasize good ability of structured work and implementation, as well as the ability of written and oral presentation in English. The emphasis is on personal fitness and ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary group.
