Weather forecasting and climate studies are based on the collection, analysis and presentation of large amounts of data. met.no uses some of Norway's most powerful computers, and we are far further in adopting new technologies for data collection, production, presentation and distribution of products. We now have a vacancy that develops at the regional office in Bergen. The main task is the renewal and further development of meteorological models and applications through participation in scientific projects. The position also includes tasks related to operating systems and applications. The assignments are academically challenging and involves the development based on new technology. The development happens under Linux, mainly using C + +, Fortran and Perl, and based on open standards.
Workspace:
* Development of meteorological and oceanographic models and applications
* Develop solutions for processing, presentation and distribution of data and products
* Facilitating efficient operation
* Operation of meteorological applications and operating systems
* Assist in the operation of local computer equipment
Qualifications:
* Experience in the requirements specification and software development
* Expertise in two or more areas of C + +, Fortran, Perl, Linux, use of free software, and development of robust systems with high performance
* Education at university or college level in geophysics, physics, computer science or applied mathematics
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate
* Independent and resourceful
* Result-oriented and service-minded
